Overview

The AAT Applications 1 course is a highly interactive course, engaging students immediately in hands-on exercises.  In this course, students will learn to work with animal-handler teams to provide AAT to their clients, and learn to incorporate and practice AAT techniques.

  • Identify the difference between a service animal and a therapy animal.
  • Identify three assessment criteria for client participation in AAT.
  • Analyze dynamics that impact selection of appropriate animal-handler teams.
  • Identify four behavioral indicators of animal stress.
  • Identify two ways an animal may be incorporated into client treatment plans.
  • Identify three documentation formats applicable to AAT.
  • Locate three reference works for standards-based AAT practice.

AAT Applications I is a highly interactive course, engaging students immediately in hands-on exercises.  Learn to work with animal-handler teams to provide AAT to your clients and practice AAT techniques.

- You will receive a student guide for later reference.
- You will also be certified by Pet Partners to utilize AAT in your practice.

Becky Payne, MAT CCC/SLP 
has been a Speech Language Pathologist for nine years and the owner of Speech Therapy Associates of Northwest WI for eight years. She developed and founded Nature’s Edge Therapy Center, Inc., a unique, nonprofit rehabilitation center utilizing Hippotherapy, Animal-Assisted Therapy and Horticulture Therapy on a ranch setting.

She is a member of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association, registered and certified in Hippotherapy with the American Hippotherapy Association, and Animal-Assisted Therapy Instructor, Team Evaluator, and Pet Partner team through the Delta Society®, a member of PAN-People, Animals and Nature, and a NARHA Registered Riding Instructor. She has presented at the International Conference of “Closing the Gap,” “ASHA,” and local speaking specializing in Augmentative Communication, Dementia/Alzheimer Communication
Building, and leading a 15-member Stroke Club.

Fees: $150 if registration and payment is received to Nature's Edge by February 18th, 2013, otherwise it is $175. All proceeds go to Nature's Edge Therapy Center
