TEAM OF THE WEEK
Meet Swoosh, a 7 year-old Pomeranian who is a registered Pet Partners therapy animal team with his handler Michelle Thompson in Franklin, Tennessee. Since their registration in 2012 Swoosh and Michelle have had a very busy volunteer schedule. They have:
• comforted cancer patients
• motivated those receiving physical therapy
• provided cheer to residents of an assisted living facility
• relaxed university students during final exam weeks
• participated in Operation Purple camps visiting families of returning military service personnel
• helped teach young children about pet care and safety through Lovies Legacy
• been certified by R.E.A.D. to help struggling second grade students read out loud
This past spring the team began participating in a nationwide clinical trial of therapy dogs in pediatric oncology called Canines and Childhood Cancer study. Swoosh and Michelle spend 16 weeks with each child. They are allowed 15 minutes each week in a separate room with the study child and his/her family. When they finish with the “study” visit, they visit with the other children, families and staff in the Oncology area.
PET PARTNERS MAKES CBS DEBUT
Look for Pet Partners evaluator and board member Jack Barron and Rosie the therapy dog on CBS’s Lucky Dog to be broadcast Saturday morning, November 22. Lucky Dog features Animal trainer Brandon McMillan as he visits animal shelters across the U.S., rescuing unadoptable dogs. Back at the Lucky Dog Ranch, he goes to work turning the pooches into perfect pets. Rosie’s story is an inspiring one. Check your local listings for times. In some markets, the show may be broadcast on Sunday when there are conflicting sporting events on Saturday.
Handler guides and branded merchandise for registered teams, licensed team evaluators and instructors may now be purchased online here. Login using your Pet Partners ID# (found on your badge) and a first-time password of petpartners. After you login you will be prompted to change your password and set a security question. We listened to your feedback and hope you find the new store more intuitive and easier to navigate.
PET PARTNERS ONLINE STORE REOPENS
* The store requires separate login credentials from our Online Community and our online course site. New teams will have access approximately one week after registration.
